pfSense / OPNsense

Below, yourname.honkip.com and YOUR_UPDATE_KEY stand for your own name and update key.

pfSense: go to Services → Dynamic DNS → Add:

Service type Custom Interface WAN Update URL https://update.honkip.com/update?key=YOUR_UPDATE_KEY&ip=%IP% Result match good|nochg

Type this exactly. %IP% is filled in by the router itself each time it updates. Don't replace it with anything.

For IPv6, add a second one with Service type Custom (v6) and the Update URL https://update.honkip.com/update?key=YOUR_UPDATE_KEY&ipv6=%IP%.

OPNsense: install the os-ddclient plugin, then go to Services → Dynamic DNS → Add:

Service Custom (dyndns2) Server update.honkip.com Username yourname.honkip.com Password YOUR_UPDATE_KEY Hostname yourname.honkip.com

Where it says Password, put your update key. It's not your HonkIP sign-in password.

Check it worked

  1. Save the settings, then look at the Dynamic DNS page again. Most routers show a status like Connected, Success or Updated, sometimes with your address next to it.
  2. Once you have an account, Last check-in on My home shows when it last worked.
  3. Look your name up from any computer: nslookup yourname.honkip.com. The address it shows should be your home's address.
