Update link

Below, yourname.honkip.com and YOUR_UPDATE_KEY stand for your own name and update key.

If your router asks for an update link (URL), paste this:

https://update.honkip.com/update?key=YOUR_UPDATE_KEY

That's all most routers need: HonkIP sees the address the update comes from. Only add &ip= if your router's own help page names a word for its address (like <ipaddr> or %IP%) and says it fills it in:

https://update.honkip.com/update?key=YOUR_UPDATE_KEY&ip=<ipaddr>

Type this exactly. <ipaddr> is filled in by the router itself each time it updates. Don't replace it with anything.

Some routers, TP-Link among them, send the word as-is instead of filling it in. HonkIP then ignores it and uses the address the update came from, so leaving it off is the safe choice. If your router can't use HTTPS, start the link with http://.

Check it worked

  1. Save the settings, then look at the Dynamic DNS page again. Most routers show a status like Connected, Success or Updated, sometimes with your address next to it.
  2. Once you have an account, Last check-in on My home shows when it last worked.
  3. Look your name up from any computer: nslookup yourname.honkip.com. The address it shows should be your home's address.
